Ever lost something at Crobar and felt it disappeared in a very strange way?

Ever lost something at Crobar and felt it disappeared in a very strange way? I did, I then found it, and found out the reason for this “strange disappearance”

The following happened to me recently when I went to Crobar.

I walked in, it seemed like it was going to be a great night. Wasn’t too crowded, and the vibe was good. Checked in my coat, and proceeded to the bar/dance-floor. Had some drinks, and hang out with my friends. I was starting to get hot, so decided to take of my sweater and shoved it behind one of the speakers where it was out of everyone’s way, and barely even visible. Less then 10 minutes later, my sweater was gone. I had a strange feeling that the sweater was removed by a Crobar employee and not by some thief who was getting cold. I approached one of the bouncers, and asked for his help. He gave me a strange look, and told me that he has known idea. The answer was given to me with such a blunt face-expression saying “you fool, next time uses our affordable coat-check” (which I actually did). I received this same answer and strange expression from other bouncers as well. I approached one of the cleaning guys hoping to get a better answer, and I did. The answer I got was “Oh, you have to speak with one of the managers. They tell us to remove every piece of clothing that we find, and bring it to them”. Needless to say, I was pissed off.

I walked to the bar, and demanded from one of the bar-tenders to give me some answers. The guy realized that I wasn’t going to give up easily, and asked me to write down a brief description of my sweater. He would then “Put the wheels in motion”, and begin with the process of finding my sweater. He asked me to return in about 20 minutes. I took the opportunity to buy a drink, and went away to let this guy do what he said. A half hour later I returned. The bar-tender escorted me to a back room. The room was very crowded with cases of liquor. In the corner of the room, there was a pile of different clothing articles. On top of the pile, was…..yes…..MY SWEATER!

I honestly don’t know what Crobar does with the cloth they remove from the floor. My guess is that if you ever left something laying around in Crobar, and it strangely disappeared, you will probably find it worn by a Crobar employee, or up for sale on eBay.

bottom line, youre lucky crobar is pro & considerate enough to find your sweater. in my experience a club like spirit or roxy, roseland could give a shiit about lost clothing. I cant tell you how many sweaters & shirts & hats Ive lost over the years, i used to get so mental at twilo I def lost some choice fred perry & ben sherman gear there. the great rock club don hill's treats me right though & they found a brooks bros. blazer I lost there once.

I think youre lucky to get that sweater back & I think it shows that crobar is a quality venue. I do agree the bouncers & cleaning crew & even bartenders are being more lacomic & even chilly there the last 6 mnonths or so, i guess that place is like minting money & they arent quite as nice as they were the last 2 years,. but still far better than spirit roxy etc

Dude

I disagree with you, and I think you got it all wrong.

Crobar took my sweater…and never planed on returning it. They do it all the time. I saw tons of stuff in that back room, and trust me, it was not going to the “Crobar lost and found department”.

The only reason they gave it back to me is because one of the cleaning guys accidentally told me the truth, and they realized I was not going to leave the place until they give me back what they stole for me.

I couldn't care less about the sweater itself. It’s not the point. The point is that the club management thinks they can do whatever they want and get away with it.

as I say, if you leave an item around a club, you are very lucky to get it back. its totally understandable that a club picks up errant clothing & you are lucky that they let you go through their channels to get it back. in my experience more than half of the clubs would say to you, 'its gone thats it'

Im glad that you persued it & you were rewarded, but I understand a club picking up errant items and I think youre presumptuous to think that 100% of clubs would return 100 of items. I have found clubs to be very inconsiderate in this issue & so I either dont wear my sunday best clothes to clubs or is I have valuable stuff on me either keep on top of it or I check it.

just what ive learned in decades of clubbing.

and i repeat crobars bouncers & busboys are acting a lot colder than they did a year ago, last night the bouncer with cornrows and a black suit & black tee shirt was absolutely aggressive & pugilistic.

Yeh. The clubs in the city treat people like animals instead of customers, and it really pisses me off. What, paying $30 to $50 to get into a club does not qualify to be treated right?

Last Friday, Spirit management decided that they would shot down the cold water throughout the club to prevent people from drinking water, and force them to buy bottled water at the bar. Now, I understand the philosophy behind it as I do realize there are plenty of people who refill their water bottles in the bathroom sink. However, what ever happened to washing your hands after using the bathroom? I swear, I really tried to do that, but the water was so Fu___'n hot that my hands were burning.

This is a way to treat animals, not people. :nono:

Dude,

You obviosly did not read the complete story. I did use the coat check to check in my coat. I still had a sweater which I planed to keep on. I don't give a shit about the $4.00. I spend at least 25 times that amount when I go out.

Maybe you guys are right. Maybe we should all say thumbs-up to Crobar for stealing our cloth from the floor and then lying to us about it, instead of collecting it in a lost and found area.

I guess we just got used to being treated so badly by the clubs that we really don't give a shit anymore.

i just cant see complaining liek this if you actually got it back

i mean I understand where you think they were shady and all that

but you asked a bouncer ( last thing on his mind is some clubbers sweater - sorry he has much more important things to worry about) even thought last week I found a cell phone , gave to a bouncer....the girl called and he returned it himself.

then you asked a bar tender who should have instantly blew you off cause he has a bar to attend to ..but he took a half hour of his time ( where he can be making tips)

if anything I think this thread should have been written showing professionalism for some of these staff memeber that went way beyond anything they should be doing to find your sweater..

they cant leave every article of clothing people take off just lying around .....it is not like they "stole" it like you said......well cant speak for those cleaners guys ( never know with them)

I mean people lose wallets, cell phones, car keys you name it at clubs.......and there is less attention given

i think they did a bang up job helping you ...

a million dollar club can easily afford to tell some kid to go fuck themselves and their sweater and beat it ........but they did the right thing

wouldnt you agree ?

Leaving clothing laying around doesn't make the club look good either. Plus at least it was with crobar team and not stolen by someone else which could have happend if they didnt pick it up.

Just relax. I'm sure you can afford another sweater.

clothing near the speaker is a fire hazzard of sorts. If a speaker had mad lint and BS around it and god forbid someone spilled a drink and a spark or a short circuit of sorts happened ... BOOM a fire happens ... and your pissy cause they removed it. If your putting something behind a speaker and you find it cause the club was nice enough to return it ... you should be applauding crobar and not trying to say they stole your shit. If you spend so much more than 4 bucks, then next time get 2 coat check tickets instead of trying to look pretty in door w/ your fab sweater ....

i don't think you have a point...you were irresponsible by leaving you sweater somewhere that you knew shouldn't used as a storage space...

i put my stuff in bass -bottoms all the time but if lose i know it was my fault, sure go check if the club took it and stashed it but don't hold them responsible if you were also to blame.

they covered their ass by supplying you with a coat check which you did not use...it's your loss and responsibilty

You left your sweater behing a speaker in a club in NYC. Seems you didnt care much about the sweater in the first place.

You kidding complaining about this. Come on and give us a break. If they stole it from the coat check I would understand. You left it on their property and didnt pay for it to be watched. You know what? It was theirs to find.

I think the only thing that should come out of this monstrosity of a thread is the fact that you should learn your lesson not to leave things around where 3,000 people can find it.

You guys are missing the whole point, and some of you are rushing to post your comment before reading the whole story. I did pay for coat check, and I couldn't care less about the $4.00.

I was lied to, and was treated like an animal untill they realized that I know they have it, and I was not going to leave the place untill they return it to me. And they did.

Maybe you are right. Maybe we should expact to be treated like animals and not like like paying customers. Maybe the club was right lying to me instead of being honest from the very beginning.

After all, we are only clubbers. Why should they give the time of day to even talk to us.

If some of you can't get the point I am trying to make, then so be it.

It doesn't really matter.
