i was at Crobar on Thurs for Tiesto...this rumor about not lettin in asians must be a myth cause they lined the walls of Crobar like they were the new club design>>Asian Wallpaper...it was alil rediculous especially havin read the thread posted by upsetfellow, iwas expectin the asian population to be at a minimum how ever when i entered to my surprise i encountered the complete opposite...maybe it was the night or the dj that made Crobars' staff allow this many asians fucked up on some other shit grabbin each other shakin each other and all the usual shit that u see them do at any and every club...and it def made for a bad vibe i jus didnt want to be anywhere near them...as for Crobar bein selective i think that it is a great idea for them to try to keep the crowd at an enjoyable level where everyone fucked up or not can have fun...it sux fro all the normal asians that jus wanna go have a good time b/c they r unfortunatley gettin turned away too...i go to a club to 1) enjoy the music and 2) have a good time...and sometimes my goals for goin out are marred by these ppl that jus dont kno how to control themselves...big ups to Crobar IF they r tryin to put themselves on CROWD CONTROL and if not well hopefully they start to do somethin...

so lets start making a list of nationalities that shouldn't be allowed in Crobar. You want to start? It appears anyone from China, Japan, Thailand, Vietnam, Korea, Phillipines, Cambodia, Malaysia and Indonesia are on your list. What other nationalities shall we add to the list?

i dont agree with ANY of your generalizations. Im saying crobar is allowed to have their policy & they can enforce it. Im not making any of their policy & Im not a bouncer there. but i do love that club & think its the best big NYC club since tunnel 10 years ago.

Hmm..you don't agree with ANY of my generalizations? You are the one who was generalizing when you agreed with this dumb action on their part to "filter" out asians.

over 75% of this thread have people responding saying "thank god!" or "it's better that they do this" or whatever. Keep in mind, this thread is about the accusation that Crobar is not allowing people into their club based on race. And you my friend, agreed with it.

you know - i really enjoy reading your reviews on parties.

but i am baffled that someone like you who have been in the scene for a long time, who have been at one poiint or another involved in the rave community/parties, would have such a microscopic mentality regarding door selection.

i would have expected that a former raver like you of all people be more open minded, considering that ravers are generally not elitist and have their fair share of drug use, perhaps even getting mangled at one point or another. i do however sense a little bit of elitism in your comments.

but perhaps your anal obsession with crobar is tainting your ability to judge the issue in a non-biased way. of course, i might defend crobar anally if they got me preferentially treatment at the line - like you bragged about in the past... BUT it would not cloud my reasoning and give me an excuse to elevate myself beyond the clubbing peers.

me personally - i leave my pretension and arrogance at home and get focused on the dance floor. by the way, did we not have a great time together at dj sneak playing at sol???? ;)

i dont agree with the fact that Crobar is bein racist cause i dont think that is fair music is non responsive to race color gender religion or anythin...however Crobar is in business to make money and stay one of the elite clubs in NYC and also to keep drawin in a crowd...i understand then when ppl go to the club they all have their own thing that they do whether be to drink, pop pills, sniff lines, stay sober or whatever ur clubbin ritual is...u, im guessin happen to be asian (maybe??) and if not jus one of the ppl who go out have a good time without lettin it get outta control...u probably kno the scene and u kno that these asians line the walls and look like zombies at every dark depth and corner of most clubs...what drugs they r taken is unknownst to me but they r def on some potent shit and im sure ur not one of them bein that ur arguin clintons point...when new comers go to the club they dont want to see these ppl so fucked cause when they leave they r not gunna wanna come bak which means that Crobar is losin customer base which is equal to profit, money outta their pocket...Crobar knos that ppl r on drugs and all that its part of the scene they let it go if its under control...im not sayin that all the ppl that get outt a control r asian but im goin to generalize by sayin that 90% of the u'uncontrolable' ppl r asian which means that if Crobar or any other club wants to keep that profit goal and bringin in ppl they r required to enfore a stricter door by not lettin in most asians that r plasterin the wall...unfortunatley that might mean bein racist...which they r entolded to bein that they r a private entity...they dont have a sign outside that says 'our door is not based on race religion gender, handicap, balh balh blah, i want everyone to have fun i dont care who u r... but those ppl give offf BAD VIBESSSSSSS...which makes for a bad party environment...

if u, soj or anyone for theat matter, are asain (or not) or kno these ppl linin athe walls like its their job plz tell them to chill so that they dont ruin it for the other asians tryin to have a good time and they dont ruin it for the others in the club....

damn sorry it was lengthy im sure most will agree...sorry soj...dont take offense to my post jus tryin to help answer ur argument....hope this conflict is resolved soon

hope to c yall on the floor

Hey, I'm asian. And that shit those asian zombies do bug the crap out of me too. It kills the vibe and I do whatever it takes not to associate with that crowd. I don't know what language they speak or how to speak it myself. So if you think I have some magical ability to speak to them, then you are mistaken.

I'm sick of getting kicked off a club line because I happen to be standing next to them.

But lets be fair as well, the meatheads who are all greased up on vaseline or something who walk around the club pushing people out of their ways with their oversized sweaty chests and biceps bug me more than a few zombified asians sitting in a dark corner.

Everyone has their thing. What bothers me may not bother you. Profiling people by race in entry into a club is just plain wrong. Period. I don't care how you slice it. Not only is it wrong morally, it is in fact actually illegal. Is it provable? Nope. But I can call the press, the asian community leads, my local representative in gov't and some noise could be made. Crobar will be watched over for a while and it just causes more headaches all around for not only crobar but for you and i as patrons.

It's just a dumb policy that doesn't do anything in the end. The cracked out asians will still be there. The shirtless greasy meatheads will still be there. This dumb policy only creates bad press, bad feelings and a bad rap altogether without solving anything.

its a private club meaning they can let in whoever they want.

And if its really an important issue to anyone, email suffices.

I really think you are using this one person's experience to draw bad publicity to one of your competitors.

what makes it private? if theyre open to the public for business they cannot discriminate who their customers are. next youre going to tell me that ABC boutique is a private boutique so they wont sell items to XYZ ppl? doesnt sound right to me.

whether these accusations are true or not, im going to wager that nothing will come about with this...

Good response and i agree with you...point well taken...i guess the patrons of the clubs r not goin to have the answer cause i have brainstormed tryin to come up with every logical explanation for it, but whatever me u and every1 else on CP think things r not goin to change unless Crobar changes them...i feel sorry for u and i agree wit u since its not fair to u but i guess its jus a tough break...nice talkin to u soj...hope tou see u otu ion the floor sometime...

i never said they can discriminate.. discrimination is illegal.

but regardless, since it is "private"ly owned.. they dont have to let everyone in is my point. If they dont want to let you in, as long as its not biased against civil liberties, then they dont have to let you in.

Are you kidding me, competitor for what i dont work for any club in this city. Crobar is not my fave club in the city but i do regonize that based on the talent they bring in THIER THE NUMBER ONE CLUB IN NYC, (would i say that if we were rivals). Place aint exactly my style but if theres a dj that i like i will def be there no questions ask. I'll be there on the 20th for behrouz. If the crobar peeps have an issue with my topic then fine they can let me know and i will take it down. But i think any club that is being accused of "racist" actions should address the issue.

I still cant believe you and STYMIE would say something bout competition, thats the stupidest post made today by 2 different users.

what up gabe nice meetin ya at odyessy 2 weeks ago..but honestly gabe i indulge i do not like to drink alcohol so i have other means of getting nice..and if the music is great like it was at sol this saturday morning i dont need anything and i was sober cause the music got me high..But some off the boat asians just like young JP fans ruin it for everyone cause they contribute nothing to the scene but a bad vibe, shadiness, overdosing, disrespect, pushing and shoving, paranoia, stealing, etc, etc one of the reasons i enjoy afterhours is because i hate drunks even more..Am i innocent? no i got caught bringing stuff in a few places and got kicked out hey cant blame the club after what happened to richard grant and peter gatien! but if i do indulge i do it very discreet i never ever loose control i respect everyone who is cool whether straight, on drugs, or drinkers who moderate and pace themselves shit im cool with meatheads too ..but the main reason i go anywhere is the dj..thats first priority music! ..second is dancing & the vibe ..third is women and indulging in a completley respectful and moderated manner nobody can tell when im high or not cause i dont get so fucked up that im falling down, puking, or being rude..Vibe is important im so happy most crobar partys turn away off the boat asians..but im equally as happy they dont let in the jp army G heads who love to visit emergency rooms via ambulance so a club can get closed down and they are mostly young white kids..Bein that crobar is a "superclub" i have to commend them ..a friend of mine got caught indulging he was asked to leave in a very respectful manner nobody grabbed him and tossed him out he was escorted out and security asked if he was ok ..then they emptied his stuff on the floor and stomped on it so there was no question that the bouncers/security stole his drugs like ive seen a million times before in other places..also ive saw some great sets all the DT partys , Calderone , vibe, behrouz, etc..my one and only beef with crobar is SOUND..anyways thats my view ..i respect yours..but honestly when i saw picotto, or judge jules or fleming at avalon i hated the vibe it was downright uncomfortable, weird and shady cause there door policy sucks ass ..avalon had potential i like the sound system alot but bro the people there were awful ..same with spirit hosting jp..its was there downfall..peace brother see ya at behrouz

Just because it's privately owned doesnt allow crobar to discriminate......IF crobar was a country club with paying members that would be a diffrent story

New York City's Human Rights Law forbids discrimination based on race, creed, sex, and other grounds by any "place of public accommodation, resort or amusement," but specifically exempts "any institution, club or place of accommodation which is in its nature distinctly private." However, a 1984 amendment (Local Law 63) provides that any "institution, club or place of accommodation," other than a benevolent order or a religious corporation, "shall not be considered in its nature distinctly private" if it "has more than four hundred members, provides regular meal service and regularly receives payment . . . directly or indirectly from or on behalf of nonmembers for the furtherance of trade or business." Immediately after Local Law 63 became effective, appellant association filed a state-court suit against the city and some of its officials, seeking, inter alia, a declaration that the Law is unconstitutional on its face under the First and Fourteenth Amendments. The trial court entered a judgment upholding the Law, and the intermediate state appellate court and the Court of Appeals of New York affirmed.
