Soundfactory???

1) What was it like??? (The music, the capacity, the crowd, the DJ's etc. etc.)

2) Will it reopen???

Thanks! :)

That place was out of CONTROL and amazing.

I made that place my home!!!! I had met many great and different people in that place.

The best was when JP had to shut down the place due to flooding in the basement it was 8am. Jp was walking around with his pants above his knees laughing.

Another time there was a fight in the club and that was not normal. JP opened the lights an yelled at the people having the fight, he said that if it didnt stop he was going to shut the club down.

THOSE were the good old days

SF was by far the best club I have ever been to in my life. My favorite sets of music were played there, the best vibe I have ever been a part of, and just a dark/crazy place. Not every time I went was great by any means, there were plenty of off nights as well BUT when JP was on, there was no dj or club that could touch him in his prime imo.

People can spin it anyway they want. It was insane.

Have to disagree, the limelight in the early 90's and twilo in the latter 90's blew away soundfactory. Sure the factory had its nights but they were few and far between, and most those parties were all drug drivin (dont get me wrong limelight and twilo were loaded to the tee with drugs but people there seemed more head strong and were there for the music not just the drugs) If anyone has ever been to twilo on an Ultimate base night you know those were the best parties in the city hands down. As for JP he is just a dj with alot of good records, no offense to all his hardcore fans but listen to his live sets not fucked up on drugs and you will see his mixing skill are sub par at best.

as one who was at both the old and the newer SF, (27th and 46th respectively), the newer SF was no comparison in anyway, the 27th st SF is in a league of its own.

The old SF was great from 97-99 maybe 00, during and after 2000 the place turned into a gross mess, musically and the people in there. In the first few years of 46th u needed to be dressed up or you weren't even getting in. after 00 anyone wearing anything could get in, and totally killed the only thing the place had going. the vibe. JP pre 2000 was good(never great) but the vibe and the crowd made up for it. most fans of his now are completeley brainwashed, it is to the point of comedy.

at the best SF 46th st. was a second or third league club at best, falling way short of twilo, arena, and limelight.

i really cant say much about the original SF, being it was the 1st club i walked into i was like 19, and went only 2-3 times in 95 maybe before closing. i just remember being in awe, and thinking this is the greatest place on earth..

Sound Factory Bar on Tuesdays, The Original Sound Factory on 27th with Jr Vasquez, and The later Sound Factory on Sats with JP.

Each was great in their own right. Each had it's peak and highs and lows. The sound system at the ORIGINAL SF in my opinion was the best. I first experienced Jr Vasquez at SF on 27th in 1994 and Kristine W was performing live and I have to say I was blown away by the whole scene. One of my favorite nightclub experiences of my life so far. However I had very memorable nights at SF on 46th with JP and SF Bar Tuesdays with Little Louie Vega and some of the other old school house DJ's that played there.

i mean seriously what the fuck does this guy want to know. It was a club sir. It had loud music, sexy girls, and alot of fucking drugs.

Well said sir, my compliments

the club had Guidos, good looking girls, juiceheads, dancers who thought they were pros in the basement, a DJ who was legendary in his day here in NYC, and Asians, many of these people are still trying to relive SF every time a DJ named JP performs at Pacha, For those of us who have moved on we like to go relax to the soothing sounds of Trance, and realize except for when Dt plays, or Morillo decides to put on a good set, the 90,s have ended.

Yep "SFB (Sound Factory Bar)"!... From 1989-1996... Frankie Knuckles was DJing there (The Whistle Song - 1st Anthem)... As you've said "Twilo" replaced it in 96! And it's present day "Spirit"!

Yep... This is the one I was referring to!

Thanks! :)

Sound Factory Bar was all gay and later changed its name to CHEETAH which is now closed.

Original Sound Factory was on 27th street

SF on 46th was good for late nights when you were f*ed up and had no where else to go (2000 on that is..) basically it was a crack den. the music was good at times, but on the whole, not very good. not much else you can expect when its one dj playing the entire night and the night is lasting 16+ hours...

SF was all about drugs and staring at half naked girls.. on drugs.

I actually preferred hanging in the basement listening to Cleavland and staring at boobies because I could sit there mangled without a care in the world. There was even a room off to the side where people would just lay on the floor while extremely hardcore pornos would play on a shitty TV set.

Anyone could have been spinnin' .. JP,, anyone.. and it wouldn't have mattered. It was all about how dark it was, how big it was, how many hot girls there was, what weird shit you might see and the lack of care in terms of drug use throughout the club.

I used to go from like 98-2000.. never expeirienced the older one but from what i've heard its in a league of its own. JP plays some really cheesey shit... mostly the same shit over and over again. I think when you're fucked up some people enjoy hearing something familiar which is why he has so many fans.

just my 2 cents

I pretty much agree. I've been there maybe a hundred or so times (holy shit maybe more lol), but I never knew about the porno room on the side. Where the fuck was that?

Now for the REAL HISTORY buffs here are 2 threads i made a few back one was abou an article called DEATH OF THE SOUNDFACTORY (1995) which was about the original one on 27st

http://bbs.clubplanet.com/new-york/254131-death-sound-factory-1995-a.html

The other is about when the CLUB KIDS from limelight were goin to SOUNDFACTORY on 27th street for the first time. And for those who dont soundfactory 27th street was opened in 1989 and was a direct desedent of the PARADISE GARAGE and built towards that crowd and music at first. Esepcially since junior spent many yrs at the garage. The crowd was bascially alot more black, latino, gay, and dancers and music heads of all walks of life. Limelight during the disco 2000 days was a lot of glam with harder beats. So 2 very different worlds. And heres the thread about an article written called

Clubkids goin to soundfactory

http://bbs.clubplanet.com/new-york/303555-story-about-club-kids-goin-soundfactory-27th-street-long-read.html

I would say continue to post in those threads if you have questions or comments based on those threads.

Than how do u explain the fact that after JP left that club practically went dead? I went there a couple or times after they replaced him, not only on a regular nights but on special events like their themed parties (which were packed probably over capacity when JP was spinnin') and there were hardly 300 people there well maybe 500 if it was a "good" night

I think he means more like advertise that jp was playing and just have someone else play instead or something of the sorts.
