  1. No, its completely different. In fact, learning the law is about the last thing you do. And its much harder.
  2. a few selections: Sounds of Blackness- the pressure Underground Ministries- i shall not be moved Satoshi Tomiie- Darkness (or anything with Robert Owens) Ralph Falcon- Every now and then Erro-don't change Onionz and Joeski- hold on to your love Aaron Carl- crucified
  3. the courses do help, especially on the games section. I increased 9 points, which opened all sorts of doors. The money you spend on the course, you will easily make back with a better job.
  4. seb fontaine produces under the name cequenza i believe
  5. global underground has Dave Seaman listed as playing NYC on the 18th. I assume its at Vinyl.
  6. Terry Farely, Bill Brewster, Stuart Patterson, Ralph Lawson, Paul Woolford, and Jazzy M are a few that pop to mind.
  7. If I remember correctly (and I may not),he died on my birthday- as did Larry Levan. Too bad, Queen was one of the only rock groups i ever liked. I just don't like the sound of guitars. I realized last night at Vinyl that I have absolutely no clue what popular music is right now, so its hard to answer this question. All I know is house. Does anyone know what's on the radio, MTV, the charts? I'm sure its crap, but I'm clueless. Oh well.
  8. I think she was at Vinyl last night.
  9. anyone know what that stripped down mix of Slacker-"looky thing" Nick played at about 2:30 was?
  10. shit, now this is bugging me. I know exactly what you're thinking of, but I can't name it. Aaaaahhh!
  11. it was actually pretty full earlier in the night. I think part of the problem was that Jody played from 3:30-5 which is pretty much peak time in NY and most people were there to see Nick Warren, so they bolted. I was there until a little after 6:00 and the crowd was still pretty decent; I've definitely seen it much worse. Maybe everyone left around then though. Boo and the fact that this is getting toward exam season for lots of people probably hurt the crowd. Having Seb here on Thursday probably burned out some of the crowd too, as their fan bases definitely overlap. On a more positive note, I had a great time. The music was great; the crowd was very cool -very up for it, friendly, and diverse -reminded me more of a Be Yourself crowd than a saturday one. Had i not read this board I never would have suspected there were any problems. Anyway, I thought it was a hell of a night; hopefully I wasn't alone.
  12. actually what i meant is it's trendy in Britain, not NY. In England right now people like Stanton Warriors, Plump DJs, Tayo, Koma and Bones, etc, etc, etc are suddenly very popular and hip and people are bandwagoning.
  13. wasn't there (still pissed about that, but its another story) but I assume you mean "cookie dough dynamo" by Richard F on Subliminal and "lazy" by X-Press 2 and David Byrne on Skint. They both should be easy enough to track down. Hope this helps
  14. Both "sound of the first season" and "sound of the second season" are very good mixes. Second season is 2 cd's with the first being rumbling techno similar to what he played at Vinyl and the second more housey, eclectic, and chilled. First season is one disc of extremely hard, noisy, raging techno (lots of Terence Fixmer if you're familiar with him). They're both great and come HIGHLY recommended.
  15. Didn't get a bid, did you?
  16. to clarify, i mean garage in the MAW sense, not 2 step.
  17. though its not really my scene, its worth pointing out shelter saturdays with Timmy Regisford if you like garage.
  18. To quote Tom Stephan "it breaks my 4/4 disco bassline rule". My own opinion is that breakbeats are fine in moderation, but I have trouble believeing Oakey even likes them; he just plays breakbeat now b/c it's trendy and he thinks it makes him look cool- much how he thinks playing Centro makes him look cool. My own opinion? He's a twat.
  19. Real chicago house is much slower and has more of a "jacking" mechanical feel as opposed to the more soulful, vocally NY stuff, if that means anything. Check out Marshall Jefferson ("Move your body" is the best) and all the old Trax stuff for the definitive sound. Imagine Green Velvet slowed down and funkier. Its hard to explain, just listen to stuff and you'll get it. If what you mean is Chicago hard house, well the difference is that its shit and NY house isn't.
  20. glowsticks=candy ravers=15 year old drug hoover wannabees Stay out of the the good clubs before you get them shut down! In other words, "stay at exit" And stop hitting people with those fucking strings!
  21. Beer- courage directors, but you cant get that here, so i'd say St. Pauli dark Mixed- rye and coke (though I can't argue with the mojito choice) Shot-soco and lime
  22. on the subject, anyone have a guess what time Fonty is gonna play?
