wow, arc really ain't vinyl anymore is it? Picotto is fine, but he seems more an Exit type. It will be easily the raviest crowd arc has seen.
-
ben shaw - so strong, probably the kleinenberg mix at least thats my guess
-
thank you, it's from an article Muzik magazine did last year on clubbing destinations around the world. having been to my fair share of shady detroit clubs (no frisking at all, but the bouncers make Mr. T look like a middleweight) i thought it was about right.

for god's sake, if you like exit, go there, don't just look for approval from CP. obviously you aren't a big fan of dance music, and that's fine. Do what you enjoy, not what others deem cool.

GOT "GHETTO TECH"? (anyone dig this shit?)
bsb2002 replied to mugwump's topic in New York / New Jersey
not made up. it's the sound of urban detroit - a mixture of techno, hip-hop, miami bass, chicago house, electro, and whatever else the DJ throws in. it can be phenomenally vulgar and juvenile, which makes some people think it has no value. prime exponents include DJ assault, Godfather, Gary Chandler. though you can trace the basic ethos of it back to Detroit radio DJs like Electrifying Mojo and the Wizard (better known under his real name-Jeff Mills). -
If you could have a Phazon in any club in NYC...
bsb2002 replied to quoth's topic in New York / New Jersey
considering clubs like code, MoS, TLV, Stereo, the End, and Fabric (among others) that have awesome systems that are not Phazon, I'd like to see more variety in clubland. Phazon does get too much hype anyway. As for what club needs a new system, I'd vote Centro. Theirs sucks. -
GOT "GHETTO TECH"? (anyone dig this shit?)
bsb2002 replied to mugwump's topic in New York / New Jersey
as a detroiter i feel the need to stick up for ghetto-tech. no, it is not intelligent and you shouldn't take it too seriously. it is, however, lots of fun and absolutely rocks any party in the midwest. it can be the worst party ever, but throw on some Assault and every girl in the place will go nuts dancing. thats just the way it is. also, there is lots of stuff out there that is less vulgar and juvenile, so don't think it is all ass 'n' titties. Anyway, like most people around here, i grew up listening to Gary Chandler and the like and so i have soft spot for that sort of music. Maybe it's just a detroit thing and doesn't translate to people who didn't grow up with it. I dunno. -
Pledge of Allegiance ruled unconstitutional
bsb2002 replied to phatman's topic in New York / New Jersey
the difficult fact for the gov is that the pledge without "in god we trust" was around for a long time but ammended in the 50's specifically to add that part. therefore, the direct, obvious purpose of that move was to implicate religion in something that was purely secular beforehand and put the weight of government behind a purely religious idea. that has nothing to do with patriotism and everything to do with "the establishment of religion" that the 1st amendment prohibits. as for the peer pressure thing, we are dealing with small school children here, so the pressure is significant, even if grown people would have no trouble objecting. -
oops, i meant "KOT anthem" by Kings of Tomorrow. Sorry, titles are too similar. If thats it (or the a capella), it came out in about '94.
-
try "MAW theme" by Masters at Work, or it might have been the a capella. thats my guess at least

Detroit Techno/Electro Techno Roll Call!!!!!
bsb2002 replied to quoth's topic in New York / New Jersey
since we've abandoned D-town, and since we are just randomly naming people, i'd put in votes for Ignition Technition (sp?), valentino, Billy nasty, DJ Rok, and Laurent Garnier (who at least has some detroit spirit despite being a weird frenchy - when he played DEMF, someone threw an ear of corn at him which was classic). also an unknown i saw in detroit a bit ago was Hugh Courtney- he was pretty good. theres too many to name, but still, the detroit guys are the best, hands down. -

Does Johnny Vicious even still dj at the Roxy??
bsb2002 replied to quoth's topic in New York / New Jersey
aux 88 are cool, though i've never seen them live. as for Knights of the Jaguar (not "night" as its about an aztec myth about well, the knights of the jaguar, whoever they are, but anyway), that is the single greatest record ever, and i don't mean that as an inflated comment. particularly the mad mike strings mix-when the beat finally drops about 5 minutes in-ooooh- its as good as sex. every single damn time. i really can't explain it, its too good for words. i'm sure mills tore the hell out of it too. we need a detroit techno thread (ok a detroit techno club night would be better, but in NYC that isn't gonna happen) -

bsb2002 replied to quoth's topic in New York / New Jersey
i've never been (its also the UR offices and I've heard its appointment only,) but its somewhere out there, and its shit like that that is the reason when you hear a detroit DJ, he has records you will NEVER hear anywhere else. If Rolando ever plays in NYC (once I'm back from my midwestern summer-yawn) I'm there like Jeff Mills on a 909. oh yeah, you should have seen T-1000 at DEMF--drool. -

Quoth- as a detroiter, i feel its my duty to say, nice avatar and sig!!! With taste like that, you shouldn't be asking about Vicious. -
I'd recommend Fergie to you Picotto fans (his Headliners CD was cool), particularly if you preferred Mauro in his earlier, more accessible phase. Not really my thing, but they are both solid DJs for that style.

i blame the sopranos for making it cool to look like some 3rd rate goomba
-
damn, morales at filter. that is gonna be way too good. i should drive back from ohio just for that. Oh wait, I'm gonna be at the DEMF that weekend. OK I'm still happy.
-
what i heard -on another board from one of the guys behind body and soul - is that they are gonna try to do everything step by step during the week and not close at all. He said Phazon sometime in June, but that sound optimistic. Air conditioning too. We shall see
-
personally i thought the "i want you" shirt and the purple glasses made for a much worse combo.
