  1. Glad it was fun. As I said on the other Lawler thread, was pretty certain he wouldn't be playing minimal, from what I had heard in the last couple of months. Also agreed about the June 2005 set at Spirit - absolutely class!
  2. Indeed it was a good day. That is, until it absolutely bucketed it down with rain just as Carl Cox came on and I was stood in only a t-shirt like a drowned rat. Highlight for me was the crowd going absolutely nuts when Sander K played "This is London" - so simple a track, but so effective in the setting.
  3. Maybe I'm getting genres mixed up, but I'd say the 2nd cd of the latest Viva cd is minimal and pretty sure he didn't play anything like that when I saw him both times recently. Also fairly sure the filthy version of The Wall (Eric Prydz vs vs Pink Floyd - Proper Education) he played at either SW4 or Pacha (can't remember which) couldn't be described as minimal? Anyway, whatever his style is I like it and would recommend it to anyone who likes it a little dirty and techy (how I'd describe him).
  4. I'm not really into all these putting DJs into buckets of music genres, but pretty sure Lawler isn't all minimal? Played the second best set of the day behind Sander Kleinenberg at the SW4 festival in London back in August and a great set at Pacha, Ibiza a couple of weeks ago when I was over. Really not convinced by his latest cd (1st one is ok, 2nd one is admittedly bleepy minimal rubbish), but live he has been great in my opinion. Maybe he'll play different for NY, but I'd recommend seeing him for sure.
  5. We heard you the first time thanks. I think everyone was probably being kind by not calling you an ill informed idiot, but to post the same stupid note on the same thread is just verging on the naive. If you haven't heard of James Zabiela then either go take a listen and then feel free to comment if you don't like him or alternatively stfu and continue listening to whatever inane rubbish that you do like.
  6. I'm not sure I understand - is being hyped as the new Grateful Dead a good thing?? The fact they have been around for 15 years means little when you consider most people haven't heard anything from them for much of the past 10 years. Each to their own I guess, but when in years to come people discuss bands that influenced a period of time in music and made a difference, I find it much more likely that people will be talking about Nirvana and not Pearl Jam.
  7. Those were my exact thoughts, but wasn't sure when you could get into Crobar for free? What time is until and is it guestlist only?
  8. Maybe - bit torn between this and Lawler. I don't suppose anyone has any idea of set times - what time would Nic be playing?
  9. Didn't Cream try to bring Creamfields to NY the other year (can't remember where that was going to be held), but ticket sales were weak, so they had to cancel it? Starting off at this scale was the sensible thing to do based on that result - things can always grow and get bigger and better next year.
  10. I had no gel nor A/X or Diesel clothes on, maybe they just had the idiot detector on at the gates, and that stopped him?
  11. Unfortunately only got to play 2 tracks due to technical issues - most disappointing part of the event.
  12. I've been to a bunch of festivals back in the UK, and you're right in saying that compared to them, this wasn't exactly well run (slight understatement). Not really acceptable for them to have such major technical issues for the whole evening. However, I'd go for option (d) - take it as a great Chemical Brothers gig with some decent support acts in the tents. The Ultra tent was extremely hot, but bearable for half an hour at a time. I have no qualms about paying $50 for last night's headline performance though.
  13. I thought I was going to have to eat my words after all the screwing around for Mylo - very disappointed I didn't get to see a whole set from him. Still, it allowed me the chance to catch Danny Tenaglia for the first time (not sure why I've never got around to it before) and the good times started from there. Then, the Chemical Brothers arrived.......... The sound at the start of the set seemed a little weak, but then all of a sudden it was like somebody turned the volume up to 11, Spinal Tap style, and it just seemed to take off. Absolutely unbelievable! It may just be a knee jerk reaction, but it might well be one of the best live performances I have EVER seen!! I've seen them a number of times before at various festivals and gigs over the years, but yesterday was just a whole new level. Highlights for me had to be Star Guitar, Surface to Air and Golden Path, but enjoyed the whole set from start to finish - good to hear some of the older tracks. So, thank you Ultra, come back again - just sort out those technical difficulties and make sure Tom and Ed sign on the dotted line........
  14. FYI - from the Ultra web page........ http://www.ultranewyork.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=39&Itemid=70
  15. And those events cost considerably more than $60 - the ones back in the UK do anyway. Apologies if I misunderstood your post, but I would just say that they need to start somewhere, and by getting a couple of very decent live acts and a few decent dj's it's as good a place as any. Why should it just stay in Miami? And if you always stayed home for fear of the "KTU heads" then you'd never go out......
  16. bad day at work, so some of the negativity was annoying me.........
  17. Exactly my point - no point complaining that NY's version isn't as big as Miami's
  18. I wouldn't say that Pacha Ibiza or London attract that "certain clientele" or "bad element", so why do you automatically think NY's one will?? I know you're probably not trying to put Pacha down - I'm just playing devil's advocate, as it seems you are so anti-big clubs and always promoting smaller places - which is to your tastes, so fair enough. Places like Cielo apparently have tricky door policies if you don't go there all the time, so big rooms are where most people feel comfortable going to as they don't have to deal with the door drama of some of the other elitest places in the city. Like I said before, I guess it is a futile arguement at the moment till it actually opens. But wouldn't it be nice for it to be a success and stop some of these people who live on NY's past glories and are forever going on and on about Twilo etc?
  19. Nice - another fool moaning about an event before it has even happened. Correct me if I'm wrong, but Ultra Miami has been around a few years now, and so is an established event that is part of an overall annual event. Therefore it is much more likely to have a larger and wider ranging line up. This is an initial stab at doing something similar in NY, and the sooner idiots like you stop complaining and giving events like this a chance the better. If you don't like it, don't come, simple as. I'm sure come Monday you'll be relaying the thoughts of your one friend who just happened to have a bad time on Friday, without ever thinking to actually check it out yourself. Chemical Brothers will be superb - fingers crossed they play stuff off of Exit Planet Dust and good times will ensue..............
  20. Agreed - until there are some announcements over residents, events etc, there is little to get worked up about. I just found it odd that people were bashing it before it had even opened.
  21. It seems like many people have already decided Pacha is going to be a huge failure over here? Sad state of affairs if you ask me, when one of the biggest clubbing brands from overseas gets absolutely no support or respect over here. Pacha Ibiza and the one back home in London are both superb, and it probably says more about NY as a city than the club itself if it doesn't work out. Maybe it will turn out to be a nightmare, and full of the "bad element" of NY clubbing, but I think maybe rather than shooting it down before it's even opened, people should be looking forward to a new larger club hopefully bucking the trend and turning out to be good? I guess we'll wait and see what happens..........
  22. Don't worry about it, Rafa knows what he's doing. Although I am sure Owen will do great up there, we can't warrant paying 6M+ more than we sold him for last year. Cisse will come good, as long as he stops throwing his toys out of the pram.......
  23. Funny, that's the kind of thing he used to say, and thus why people used to carry on bullying him? I didn't actually say I bullied him or that I was going to bully you? Just that your inane ramblings and continual search for people to dance to early 90s music with you and numerous mentions of THAT club reminded me of this kid who would talk non-stop rubbish all day - he had some sort of attention seeking disorder I think. And before you ask, no thanks I don't want to check out your website or download any of your mp3.
  24. He reminds me of a guy who I used to go to school with........he was bullied.
  25. Heard him in Puerto Banus - very good. I'd say much housier than when I heard him play last in the US (last Thanksgiving). It was also at a smallish venue with the dj "booth" set up right on the dancefloor, so great atmosphere and felt as if he was part of the whole thing rather than being stuck up on a stage out of the way.
