  1. Fanciulli at Spirit - will be class
  2. Wasn't getting to me - like I said, I don't even know Mask. I just thought it was about time someone pointed out to him that he wasn't funny. Anyway, I guess a long list of responses on this thread is what he wanted, so I think I'll stop posting on this one...........
  3. I'm just someone who reads the board - and wanted to point out what a loser this guy was....
  4. I don't know the Mask and have never met him, so I'm not sticking up for him, but for the last week or so you just seem to have some sort of vendetta against him? Bumping up all his ancient threads and then slagging off anyone who replies as if it is anything new. So either you fancy him or he has shagged your Mum - which is it?? I'm sure I'm not the only person on the board who thinks you're an idiot..........
  5. Cheers Silverbull. Like I said, I agree with much of what you have to say, but sometimes it just seems that you are a little stuck on years gone by. I too was not a huge fan of part of the crowd at Crobar last time I saw Erick, but in these times I guess we just have to put up with it. We moan when people haven't heard of some great new dj or track, and then we complain when they/it become(s) popular and overplayed - such is life! Anyway, apologies if I sounded like I was having a go, enjoy Sunday.....
  6. Unfortunately I didn't make it in last night as I was a bit skint, but the consensus appears to be that it was a good night, though maybe not quite as good as Thanksgiving. However, I just wanted to pull you up on your point Silverbull. Everybody is entitled to their opinion and I agree with much of what you say usually, but your quote above is basically just slagging off half of the board and everyone who went last night? I can see why maybe you prefer old Morillo, but times change and he has changed with them. Get over it! I've seen you complain about his sets in NY before, and yet you still go last night (and Thursday if I remember rightly from the posts), so you can't hate him that much?? Each to their own I say, but if you go to a night and get a type of music and crowd that you expected to not enjoy, then you only have yourself to blame if you don't like it.........
  7. The benefits of having the internet at work.... Now that I have listened to most of it - I can safely say, some very nice tunes, some of them pure filthy house - wonderful stuff!
  8. I've only just got around to listening to it this afternoon, so I haven't got to Tongy's set yet. But I've liked what I've heard so far. Like you say, he doesn't drop tune after tune after tune, but if the sets I heard last year are anything to go by, he'll definitely do the business.
  9. yeah - it's from last week at Club Class with Tong
  10. I know there was a thread on here the other week, with a few people not sure what he sounded like. Attached is a link to the bbc radio 1 site, where you can listen again to last week's essential mix for anyone interested: http://www.bbc.co.uk/radio1/dance/essentialmix/tracklistings.shtml?dp_rhn_emix_link1
  11. Good balanced post Silverbull. I too couldn't put Fanciulli in the top 10 yet, as I haven't heard him live, but he plays the sort of music I like and that's what matters most to me when I'm out and about. Though I have heard his sets on the radio and think he definitely falls into the category of a dj who can also produce, rather than one or the other.
  12. Fair enough Bassboy, but by the same token, people shouldn't just slag off djs just because they haven't heard them. If he didn't like his style or sets, then fair play, everyone has an opinion, and those differences is what breeds change. However when he comes out with shit like "show the local some respect", then you've got expect a response. As many people on this board have said, if he had just done a touch of research (apart from checking out Amazon's cd collection) he might have found out a little more and maybe even liked what he heard?!
  13. Cheers fratpat - I heard his Ibiza set and agree wholeheartedly - absolutely blew them away! Since moving over here all I seem to hear is Danny T, Roger S that - no disrespect whatsoever to them at all, but there are other djs in the world. I saw Roger Sanchez last year when I had just arrived in the US and had a blinding night, but compared to some of nights I have had out in London and the one time I made it to Ibiza, IMO NY hasn't really compared yet (apart from Morillo @ Thanksgiving). People need to move on and try something new - for anybody with an open mind and a love of good house music, I'd make sure you get a ticket or get in line for Nic Fanciulli, as he won't disappoint. For those of you aren't sure what he sounds like check out the sklark remix of A'Studio - SOS, and in fact anything else that Sklark have done. I can see from the various posts that there is likely to be a few more than Keith's estimate of 15 people there, and I for one am most looking forward to it.
  14. I missed out on seeing him at Cielo last year, but was gutted. IMO he is one of the best djs in the UK at the moment. I haven't had the pleasure of hearing him live yet, but everytime I have heard a set on the radio (his Essential Mix, Homelands and Ibiza sets in particular) he has been unbelievable. All his remixes as part of Skylark have been fantastic aswell and if people don't open their eyes and ears to rising talent such as this, then NY is going to be stuck listening to same old shit for years to come. I was surprised to see him headlining such an event over here, but as ovrdose says, do a bit of research mtmartin and Keith and you'll find that he is one of the most respected djs amongst other djs back in the UK. And Ovrdose - definitely agree, David Guetta's essential mix from last week is very pleasant indeed. You should check out the sets from the Tsunami disaster fund event last week, also on the BBC site if you haven't already.
  15. Agreed - it was out in the UK a few months ago (only just released here, and I wasn't going to spend double the amount to get the import), but the tracks are at least decent ones and not watered down versions of the ones originally played in the clubs. That was really the point I was trying to make. Very rarely are compilations available with loads of unheard tracks on (if you go clubbing regularly), however if you wanted a decent mix of tunes of the latter part of last year, then I would go with Morillo's.
  16. If anyone wants to buy a quality mix album, get Morillo's new Subliminal Winter Sessions 2 album (only just out over here in a compilation called the 2 sides of my world). Quality tracks from what I can see including Gadjo - So Many Times and a decent mix of Strings of Life. And yes Silverbull we all know the original is very, very old but I don't anyone on this board with an ounce of talent for spotting a decent track would deny that the Danny Krivit re-edit and this mix are also quality. Also agree with you about Shapeshifters - superb track earlier in the year, but as soon as it got the vocal treatment it all went downhill - that's the British charts for you I'm afraid. One newer tune on here that I do like is The Lovefreeks which I only heard for the first time on NYE when I was back in the UK, on the other hand I'm not a fan of the David Morales track. There's always going to be a place for these sorts of albums, it's just a bit disappointing that the record labels promote them as the newest releases, when all the tunes have been out for months and months.
  17. Many, many poor mixes of some nice tunes...... Dannii Minogue should be shot for touching the Flower Power record, and as for the new vocal mix on Strings of Life, I think the less said about that the better!
  18. I have no qualms with people doing whatever they want in clubs, it just annoys me when the place is crowded and they take up dancing space which could be put to better use!!
  19. I didn't think anything could top seeing Morillo @ Pacha in Ibiza and as an overall clubbing experience I don't think anything will, but last night musically I think I can say was the most amazing set I have heard. Tune after tune after tune after tune. I nearly didn't make it after too much drink and food the day before, but I am sooooooo glad that I did, because all my sleepyness just melted away within the first few minutes of me being there when he played Gadjo - So many times! Absolutely pure genius all night and Mr Morillo is back to the top of my favourite dj list. However, I do have a couple of negative things to say, which I guess is just part of any clubbing experience in a major city:- Huge guys who have obviously taken too many steroids standing in the middle of the dancefloor smoking reefers rather than dancing?!?! Short people with rock hard spiky hair wearing vests, or even worse no top at all, barging their way through the dancefloor. Luckily Erick did the business and the positives far outweighed the negatives.........
  20. Cracking film, though not sure if the acting was cheesy on purpose in places or just plain bad - whichever it was, it made me laugh. Wasn't as scary or disturbing as I thought it might be, but definitely made the mind wander as I left the cinema!
  21. I agree on most of your points, especially about the exposure to music over here. I have to listen online at work so that I don't get out of touch with the scene back home. Mr Tong on a Friday afternoon does help me get ready for the weekend, and other shows such as the essential mix are also quality, when they have the right djs on. It's criminal really that most people over here don't get to hear tunes as we do in the clubs. Case in point for me would be Shapeshifter's - Lolas Theme, that was huge in clubs in the UK earlier in the year (and in Ibiza by all accounts), but only got large recognition when they added the over the top vocal and released it into the mainstream. Since I have been over here, that is unfortunately the only version I have heard on any radio station. I wasn't sure whether to go last Friday, but figured that if I didn't and others also didn't go if they weren't too sure about it, then talent such as this would give NY a miss next time, which can't be good for the city. Although I am not sure how Pete Tong is live, I am just hoping he brings the record bag he plays each week on Radio 1 and the music he plays at Pacha and I for one will be happy. Do you think the turnout for Pete Tong will be any better than last Friday, or do you think it'll be a case of the right dj on the wrong night again? Final point, on the Strings of Life issue, if people don't recognise the tune of the summer, then more fool them!
  22. Unfortunately I was a little too drunk aswell, but he played Strings of Life, so I was in my element for at least part of the night! I agree with most of what was said about the music and the crowd. Having moved here from the UK, I can see how it would be difficult for them playing to the NY crowd for the first time and it definitely sounded at times as if they were trying to sound the crowd out and see what went down well. I think if they had just concentrated on playing what they wanted to, and bringing a little bit of Ibiza over with them, they would have gone down much better. As much as I like Crobar aswell, I'm not a great fan of the location of the dj booth. I was there last month and the dj was on the stage, and thought it worked much better - it may just be me, but I like to see the dj in action and getting into their music. The other thing that didn't really help, was having Roger Sanchez on the night after them. RS is hugely popular over here and a lot of people who I think would have enjoyed JJ & KC held off going out till Saturday night.
  23. I've not had to do the trip, so this is purely my best guess from knowing the locations and train links etc. Taxi would be easiest, but ultimately quite pricey (especially with a black cab) - depends on how many of you there are. Train - there is an express service into Paddington, but I think you then need to get across London to Victoria to catch the train down to Gatwick - bit of a pain in the arse if you have lots of bags, but more likely to find a pub on the way. I'm sure there will be buses between the two, but don't know enough to comment. You probably want to find a pub on route between the two for a couple of hours if you catch a train rather than waiting to get to Gatwick as it isn't the best airport. Heathrow on the other hand has good shops and a few bars depending on which of the 4 terminals you are in. As with most airports there isn't much around the locations except for the airports themselves, so there isn't much chance of you seeing any of Blighty's finer points.....
  24. I agree, The End is class. Been there a few times for Darren Emerson's Underwater sessions and also once when Sandy Rivera played. Nice size, nice atmosphere and nice people.
  25. Darren Emerson was quality as per usual, but it was a disappointing turn out for the size of the place. Having just moved over here from the UK, I don't know the history of the place, so went with an open mind. I had no trouble getting in etc, and although drinks were pricey (typical NY club prices) I thought it definitely had potential if they promoted the night more and got a larger crowd.
