  1. ARMIN is where its at.... he brings it everytiiiiiiime
  2. yessss... amen... its been like 2 years for me
  3. Strobe Life guestlist! email StrobeLifeNYC@gmail.com to get on the list
  4. i see no difference between Pacha's actions, and me giving my baby cousin a pacifier to shut her up when shes crying.... but hey, comps are comps, whatever works lol
  5. New Yorkers, and Americans in general, have the attention span of about 4 minutes... 6 minutes when their money was affected.
  6. haha nah he wont... ill put ten bux on that
  7. well, if ur talking about Abyss or Sound Garden in New Jersey, or Pure in Westchester, sure, those promoters have no qualm in bringing Angelo Venuto to sing for a night because he gets people to go... i dont really see any of those tactics in Manhattan though (except Pedro @ Glo). has Louie DeVito or Reina or Venuto or Riddler played at anywhere other than Webster Hall? i dont think so (i could be wrong).... i think promoters are doing a pretty decent job in Manhattan to tell you the truth... hate on Avalon all you want, but with the Tresor party, the upcoming Time Machine party, the Blank and Jones party a few weeks back, and Adam Beyer, they got quite a well-rounded lineup... hate on Spirit all you want, but with the Judge Jules even a few weeks back, Chris Liebing, and all the Made Events DJs, they seem to be doing another great job. Crobar, dont even get me started, their only negative point is having Boris as resident, but thats about it.... Sol's coming up to bat too with some of the acts theyve been getting, theyre guest DJs seem to be getting bigger and bigger every week, i wouldnt be surprised if its a solid competitor of Crobar's within the next few months. so, unless ur going to base Jersey or the boroughs in your argument, then i have to say the promoters are bringing the right DJs to New York.
  8. and i dont think i articulated myself well enough the first time, so ill explain it again... what i meant was, i know a LOT of people who used to be into the hip hop club scene and little by little eased into the electronic scene, the dancing, the music, the big room insanity... i can count on two fingers the people who were fans of Crobar and Spirit, Paul van Dyk and Tenaglia, who switch over to the bottle-service-driven culture of the bling bling hip hop clubs...
  9. but the question is... is the culture associated with that music what those people are going to the clubs for (bottle service, status, bling, girls, drink)? or do they really appreciate the music? its obvious that they dont care that a Lil Jon song is on 20 times a night, therefore its not a matter of the MUSIC hip hop winning the battle against the MUSIC trance/house... its a matter of that scene being more appealing... like all fads, it will die out but the true spirit of music never dies out, theres always that love no matter what... you see a lot more former hip hop fans that lose themselves into the electronic culture, than EDM fans that ditch the electronic scene for the hip hop lounges/clubs... it makes you think
  10. no.. im not referring to hardcore, im referring to HARDSTYLE... you need a re-schooling obviously..... Hardstyle is a sub-genre of trance music that is closely related to nu style gabber and hard trance. Hardstyle sounds very similar to nu style gabber but is usually about 30 bpm slower. The average tempo is between 140 and 150 beats per minute. Many hardcore artists produce hardstyle songs, which sound very similar but are more accessible. Hardstyle is generally played along side NRG and Hard House in the UK and aside hard trance or hardcore in the rest of Europe. Hardstyle evolved from German, Italian and Dutch Hard House which blended with influences from hard trance and oldschool hardcore in the year 2000. It originates from The Netherlands where the first Hardstyle events were held in late 1999, early 2000. One of the key figures in its development is Dana van Dreeven, also known under her alias Dana. At a later time more of her colleagues from the hardcore-era joined the club, such as Dj Luna, Pavo and The Prophet. ....schooled.
  11. hahahahahahahaha i know these kids, theyre from Westchester, two of the funniest kids ive ever met... a lot of this stuff holds true for the 18+ scene too, they hit the nail on the head hahahahahaha gave me a good laugh when they first put it up a month and a half ago, and its still got me lmao
  12. oh, and i hate Vic Latino... i wont even give him the respect of considering him a DJ, he needs to die... every1 on KTU does. although i can tell Riddler wishes he didnt have his dick and music style controlled by KTU wherever and whenever he plays... over the last year, i have heard MOMENTS of innovative music on his show, be it some new vocal hard trance remix by Rank1 and DuMonde, or Marco V's "c:/del.mp3"... he is just itching to finish his contract with Ultra and KTU, i dont know how he could sleep at night knowing he sold his musical soul to the devil! haha
  13. you also have to understand that up and comers arent given a chance, especially in New York. i have spun whole sets with tracks that friends of mine or friends of friends of theirs have made, all original, unsigned stuff... record labels just arent open ne more... look at New Yorkers who have made it big in the international arena... theyre either classic NYC house DJs like DT or Morales and the list goes on.... OR.... they just got lucky (the better part of the Subliminal lineup are Erick Morillo's boys from back in Jersey and New York) - Nunez, Harry ChooChoo Romero, Who Da Funk, i can name more but its too early to remember.... theyre all somehow connected thru friends or brothers or w.e.... nowadays, ur a producer without connections, you could consider all ur hard work a waste, it wont get out there. do you see anyone new running shit right now in New York? no, its the Tenaglia, Morales, Calderone, JP, etc. parties that sell out, and theres no room for anyone to be noticed. im only 19 but EDM has been my passion, i have my own internet show every week since about a year and some change ago, and i give tremendous passion in what i do, the music i play, and most importantly, THE MUSIC I PRODUCE. i had been signed to a new label this past summer but have only realized now that its not really legitimate nor do release dates for me or any of the other artists seem clear in the near future... its just impossible for one of us to get to a legitimate label for people to hear our sound, and those that do are the lucky ones, and arent necessarily the best out of the bunch. i consider myself extremely lucky for having a few gigs at Avalon and Spirit, but having my original songs heard is just on another level of impossible. why do you think new artists, whether trance or house, end up leaving New York? Victor Dinaire... hes doing better elsewhere.... Filo and Peri... theyre a lot bigger internationally than they are here in New York.... and these are from the trance end of things, where there is a bit more room for artists to emerge because of the lack of 40+ year old DJs that have run shit forever (trance is relatively a new sound compared to house)... just my thoughts
  14. nothing on Clubplanet will and can ever be considered underground... go to a rave and youll see what underground is about... and no, contrary to popular belief, its not 99% trance and hardstyle... i have heard some of the best house, tribal, discohouse, progressive, breaks, etc. at raves and its blew my mind as to how Crobar doesnt book some of these DJs... ive played 3 raves in the past year, and the DJs ive met are all as talented as can be, and as into the scene and down-to-earth that a DJ in 2005 can be.
  15. wow 2 reviews... this place doesnt seem like a huge deal... Steve Lawler will kill it tho
  16. jesus, i feel for u man, that REALLY sucks...
  17. HURRY? i believe the first word was that Pacha was to open last Fall? then NYE 04? then Spring? then before Halloween? then Thanksgiving Eve was the big rumor too. we shoulda seen the shotty management coming, considering the constant setting back of the date.... ....and i wouldnt believe what you heard when you called up Pacha (them saying tonight is still on).... last night, people were calling in and according to the people answering phones, there were still tables available... meanwhile, they were as overbooked as a restaurant table on New Years Eve.
  18. heard it was an amazing night, even told "one of the best nights at Crobar ever", so thats good to hear, i wish i coulda made it, ive been sick all week though..... Victor, how was Matthew Dekay (the opener), ive heard nothing but good things about him, just curious how he did?
  19. from the sounds of it, im surprised Bloomberg let it stay til 2AM.... wasnt there but all i could say is Pacha deserved this... the lineup isnt to die for either, so the only thing that looks decent is Steve Lawler on the 30th... ill give them a chance then... if its not already shut down for good.
  20. doesnt look like there could be any vibe with the bouncers not letting people with white Diesels in... the venue being similar doesnt mean the vibe is similar, i dont get it?
  21. new yorks newspapers can get the average new yorker to look negatively at a club by mentioning something so stupid as slutty outfits or cursing that goes on... sure its the least of Pacha's problems in reality, but the last thing they needed was the New York Post to find yet another reason for New Yorkers to think of clubs in a bad light..
  22. then whyd u make another post with Pacha in the title? well, what do i know... it was worth it, considering the post above mine made me shit my pants laughin haha
  23. or STROBE LIFE guestlist for Friday or Saturday (email StrobeLifeNYC@gmail.com)
  24. you gotta get the right vocals! dont go by a Ultra Trance compilation, i dont think theres any CDs out in New York that can give you the real shit... some amazing vocals in the past year, "need to feel loved" by Reflekt and Delline Bass.... "shivers" by Armin... just too many to name, i dont know where to start... sure, CDs back in 2000 or earlier stayed TRUER to true trance than the "trance compilations" of today... the Tranzworld CDs back in 2000 and then were as trance as it gets, just amazing stuff straight from Europe... now, all we have is Ultra Trance, mixed by The Riddler and the once in a while export that makes it big, like PvD's latest CD, "POD2" (amazing)... but if you look hard enough elsewhere, youll see its just as quality as it ever was...
