this cracks me up everytime i think about it: a few years ago there was a high profile divorce court case up here in new england. a really rich guy was trying to convince the courts that his new bride was a gold digger and she wanted to divorce him so soon after marraige only to take his money. the story was a popular drama for a while cause the guy was a rich guy and a yachtsman who owns an americas cup racing boat (anyobody know who i am talking about-- i forget). anyway, the funniest thing was, when he got the divorce and the courts made their final decision that he did *not* have to pay his ex-wife a dime, the headline of the boston herald (a paper just like the post) read: "HEAVE HO!" too funny. ------------------ i love music!

dlish -- that quote just reminded me of why i usually dont get into these discussions. you say that snorting coke while drunk will make you a sober driver! id like you to show me any valid evidence (other than "it works for me") to support such an unfounded remark. remember, there are many ppl who read this board that value advice from us, their peers. if we care about the "L" and "R" in PLUR, we should take care not to give unsupported and extremely dangerous advice. everyone else -- look, i am not saying that i am better than anyone or that i act cooler on *my* drugs than they do on *their* drugs. i have done C, E, etc. so i am not being a "hypocrite," i am being a *realist*. i not only have personal opinions, but i also have back up for what i am saying. go to erowid or the lyceum or any other source you trust for responsible drug info and research it yourself. you wont find things like coke-makes-you-a-better-driver but you *will* find things like coke-makes-you-violent. hey! do whatever drugs you want. i am *not* the fun-police! but if you find yourself getting agitated, talking too much, and touting an inflated sense of self-importance (all documenetd side effects of coke), then pls stay the fuck away from me. i cant stand being around cokeheads when they act that way. its my opinion and comparing them to e-heads is not going to convince me otherwise. also, pointing out how much fun *they* are having is not going to encourage me to hang out with them. i put up this post bc i wanted to warn ppl of the dangerous of a seemingly innocuous (sp?) chemical. why do you have to champion its cause with lies? fine, you enjoy it, thats cool. its your opinion. but why put down the truth i present with BS? its *not* only IMHO that coke makes you violent, it is a documented side-effect! after re-reading my post i feel like i did come accross as being very judgemental. however, i only wanted to write up this story to try and help people. coke has become so cheap that new ppl seem to be getting into it. also, there are many young ppl who read this board who might think of trying it. bottom line is that cocaine makes ppl think they are really cool, really rich, and really likeable. the reality is that coke abuse makes everyone unfocused (therefore narrow minded and uncreative), broke (or dealing only to support their habit), and sketchy/untrustworthy. also, i do *not* want to put down ppl with kids or ppl who have done jail time. i just dont see congruency between *saying* theyre all about family yet *acting* like party animals who are all about getting f'ed up. its ok to have a good time, and its true that once you have done your time you have paid your debt. however, snorting lines and hanging with cokeheads and coke dealers when another arrest would mean long term sentencing (and therefore seperation from the family) is simply not *loving parental behavior*. look, coke is not that much fun. pls dont even bother trying it. there are so many drugs available for use and abuse that you wont miss out on anything by avoiding this one. ------------------ i love music!

sorry B2B, we def have a dif of opinion. i dont do too much of any drug anymore-- very rarely will i do E or smoke or drink. however, as someone who started doing ecstasy back in '85 (and to some 15 YO kid on this board, thats the year they were born!), i have to say that i have suffered no long term effects from the use of MDMA, MDA, etc. of course, that brings us to an important point that you and i *do* agree upon: it all depends on the user. i have sniffed coke and *never* have i behaved as described above. also, i have done ecstasy and its never once lead to anything bad for me. but thats just me. if we put our own personal histories aside, theres no denying that cocaine and alcohol (alone-- or worse yet together!) are drugs that will induce violence, lead to swaggering overcofidence, and create physical dependencies. ecstasy, by comparison, has virtually none of these bad traits. i agree it has other bad traits, include the absolute worst case scenarios u describe above, but thats not my point. cmon now! cocaine is waaaaay more addictive, physically and mentally than ecstasy. and the effects of "E fall out" are hardly worth mentioning to any of us on this board. despite the fact that we are def the "E" crowd, *few* of us have known "friends clinically depressed, people becoming recluses, people dying etc" because of E. i bet *many* of us have known people who, because of cocaine, turned from decent folks into despicable, assfucking, rancid douche bags! let me start: WORST COKE HEAD FRIEND my best friend in elementary school. became a coke head, ripped many people off, and alienated himself through numerous and unmentionable acts of stupidity to all friends in CO, NY, and MA. anybody who partied in the 80s knows what i am talking about. an 8-ball was upwards of $300 (i think? -- never bought one.) now i hear its much, much, cheaper. also, according to my friends who use, as well as the info i have seen on the net, C is typically more pure now than b4. the purity makes it a better value. why is C rising in popularity again? IMO, its bc it is returning to its old level of popularity. coke use waned alongside the rise of the popularity of ecstasy. (go E!). in the 80s, alcohol, marijuanna, and coke were about the only drugs being regularily consumed by the clubbers. one of the biggest complaints of our government against relatively safe drugs like ecstasy and pot is that these drugs have caused more mainstream ppl to become users. since more mainstream ppl partake in illicit substances like E and THC, all drugs have enjoyed a rise in popularity. the (re)rise of coke goes alongside the rise of E, K, G, etc. its truely unfortunate. our coke loving brits aside (sorry b2b, dirty), coke is a baaaad drug of choice for clubbers. honestly, how often do you hear ppl reminiscing about the joyous days of clubbing in the 80s? i am sure not often. i remember the clubs of the 80s as being too much like my party (described above) of last weekend. all of the misery of the clubs in the 80s was bc of C. ------------------ i love music!

i dont know anything about the guy. but heres a few things my friends have told me about dj skribble: 1) hes a cheap bastard. he went to a (relatively) classy strip club up here in new england. the mgmt set him up in the champagne room, the way they always do for celebs. while there, he drank the free champagne and let some girls dance for him. he then told the dancers "he doesnt like to give money to strippers." he also said he wanted more dances but he wasnt going to give them any $$$. needless to say, dj skribs didnt see much more T&A that night. 2) he was booked to appear at a club in a central MA city last friday night. i dont really know the promoters, so maybe it was their doing, but... dj scrib did not appear. it was dj skribble's "representitives" who spun records all night. ppl were pissed, esp since the representing DJ sucked. ------------------ i love music!

i guess its time for me to come out of the geek closet. my name is sir d and i am a D&D player. three or four of my buddies come to my apt every wed. we order take out food and totally geek out. i really dont like D&D that much anymore (tho the new 3rd ed rules are pretty slick) so we often play other games (board games, card games, a game of poker sometimes). ok, its totally geeky, i know. however, i find it theraputic to set one night aside *every week* to do something that does not involve any problems, involves interaction with my friends, and allows us to act like teenagers again. its a great hump-day break. totally mellow and even a bit creative. besides that, my friends and i are computer geeks too. as we keep getting together, we have started working on writing our own computer games. who knows, maybe someday we can quit working for other ppl (supporting business uses of computers) and start our own company! ------------------ i love music!
