  1. um...it is really long but a cool article kinda waffles back and forth on some stuff, no concrete theories or anything. Mistress Barbara is the shit though - seems like everyone agrees on that. I def. agree that when you hear female dj's on average they aren't as good - probably cause there are so many fewer of them that if you have any name you can get booked for things. But, there are some awesome women out there - baby ann, barbara, spacegirl, etc. shannon - get your ass on the decks so you can hit the big time.
  2. so...mine initial thought was this: while it may suck that this is happening, it happens with EVERY type of music. always has, always will. but the people who are true to their sound can keep their integrity but doing just that: staying true to their sound. critical acclaim and being cited as an important influence often don't go hand in hand with stardom and dough.
  3. well shannon, why don't you start us off with a little reaction of your own to the info you posted??? as for the vocal thing - i heard that someone big is redoing "happy happy joy joy" (ren and stimpy). but its just a rumor....
  4. that's ok.. how about we take bets on the next big vocal remix...you hearing any rumors? (shannon - does this constitute and official thread hijacking?)
  5. damn that's good info! but dan, you could always open a tanning salon or something with the same name
  6. you know, like 80% of that just went over my head. can we get back to talking about pop-house please?
  7. pardon - that ^ was me. lav would shoot anyone down that thought she had ever been a regular at SF
  8. no problem hon... just send them over. i can be found most days sitting here on the porch, sipping a beer and plotting how i'm gonna trap the wild turkeys that have been wandering around my lawn (seriously). i'm not really very good at trapping, so there's really just a lot of sitting around sipping beers going on.
  9. shannon: i told you before - if you don't let me screen for you, proceed at your own risk!
  10. so, u'r suggesting moving him into the booty call category without bothering with the going out bit? seriously steph: i've had some 1st dates that were boring, but there was a hint of chemistry and stuff, but it was just obvious that people were nervous and / or kinda afraid of opening up and stuff. if that's the case, go out with him again. but if there was like no hope of salvation and you were just in pure hell - fahgetaboudit!!!
  11. this is how i usually assemble stuff: give the cat the instructions open beer and drink while watching her put the stuff together i swear that if you drink enough it'll work your kitty's pretty damn smart
  12. i was gonna say it depends on what was disappointing about the first date. garlic smell: ok, maybe he's just dumb about what he ate before comeing out. boredom: you've been chatting and that wasn't boring i guess. was the dude just really nervous? or do you think his real life personality is different from the on line one? do you think its cause you didn't click at all? or cause he's boring?
  13. wow! what a clean kitchen you have.
  14. i seem to recall that after the first episode last year people were saying the same thing - that is was boring. i thought there was some intentional slow pacing - they're just setting up everyone's mindset for the season
  15. so you're not jailbait anymore....nice!
  16. i want to read your journal...i iknow how your mind works i write all the time, but not regularly in a journal. usually only when i'm traveling or camping or something like that.
  17. yo - if you come home don't be too startled. i'm pulling out the hook and the mask. but u'r safe. i've heard you scream and its pretty lame...gonna go get me some young lungs
  18. they let you fly? i guess there aren't any tests for what you have.
  19. j sisters is on 57th between 5th and 6th. u'll def. like the results, but expect to have to cool your heels for half an hour before your appointment. and the clientelle is upity. eve on w4th street is more relaxed. yeah, lots of gf's you have made the rounds...
  20. girly: that was sorta my point...there's lots of debate as to whether what we are doing is actually effective, or if getting rid of saddam would make a difference or keep terrorism from happening in the future. terrorism only needs one dedicated person...its very hard to stop someone who wants to walk into a building with a bomb strapped to themselves for example. that's why i say the politics part is tough. part of the problem i think is that people are frustrated cause we don't know how to solve this problem.
  21. i think i went to hell school with that "wooooot" kid
  22. i hear that the commercial aspect of it is bothersome i'm especially not looking forward to the tourism crap that will eventually be installed downtown. that pop guy is probably a jerk, but i will say that record sales, while a bad example, do affect peoples lives - incomes, jobs, etc. everything gets intertwined these days. its certainly true that the NYC market is horrible for a lot of things at the moment and part of that is tied to the downcline in the business market since 9/11. anyway...nuff said: most people are definitely very self absorbed and always have been.
  23. tony...i hear you, and mike i don't disagree with you in many ways. i've lived in NYC for 30 years now and love this place. but i don't think its fair to make so many blanket statements about all this either. for lots of people, they gave blood, flowers, donated time, etc. on other days, not today. today lots of people did quiet things, watched the news, etc. i'm not saying that everyone did these things, but the fact that i didn't give blood certainly doesn't mean i haven't done other things. as for the whole bush's war thing - its dangerous to mix politics with emotions. lots of people believe that the best thing we can do for the world is try to eliminate the possibility of this happening again. whether you think this is a good idea or is even possible doesn't mean that others don't. i think lots of people would be offended by the term "bush's war" because they feel that this label would belittle the deaths of people they know. also, many people feel that the best thing, the most important thing that they can do is return to their normal lives. i'm sure that firemen get more "love" in general than they used to, but i don't think firemen want people coming up to them and crying every day either. there are also hundreds of thousands of people (like me) that still have no job since 9/11 and have to deal with figuring out how to pay the rent and stuff. now, i'm sure lots of people just took the day off and took advantage of it....so don't take what i write too harshly.
  24. after not really sleeping and doing volunteer work in and around ground zero, i went out to the fireman's benefit at tronic that maudy posted about. i have never been so exhausted and carried on a wave of emotion. i can't describe what happened there that night except to say that for those that might think it was inappropriate, you should have seen the relief and release of tension from the bodies of people who had been working at the crash site non stop for 2 - 3 days. i believe that this was the very first benefit after 9/11. and unlike others that occured later, it was too soon for people to talk about it. instead, people just celebrated each other, life, music, etc. it was an incredible night.
