  1. This week has been CRAZY at OPM nightclub! Interestingly, after all the discussion here about the Hip-Hop forefathers, OPM became the destination of choice for Kool Herk and Melle Mel. As a matter of fact, Melle Mel has been to the club every night we've been open this week. We REALLY are honored to have serviced these legends. Thanks, Mr. Freeze and others, for helping educate on this too. Tonight (Friday February 24), the MAGIC closing party with the Super XL Champs!! The 2nd annual BALLER'S BALL ... Saturday February 25, Vargas vs. Mosley afterfight party! This party will be insane! Sunday February 26, Sunday night HYPE! Kick off the SPRING BREAK SEASON... Get Hyphy, Put your Stunna Shades On, Ghost Ride the Whip, You know how we do when the Bay is in the Area! Please note that UPSCALE DRESS CODE and UPSCALE ATTITUDE will be enforced all weekend as always. OPM Nightclub in the Forum Shops @ Caesars, Las Vegas! -DJ MasterWeb www.o-pm.com
  2. Pure's good nights are Fri, Sat, Tue. Not even sure they open the whole club on Thursdays.
  3. That is a HUGE week in Vegas. Spring break is in full effect. A lot of young chickies will be in town... Recommendations: Tryst Tao Light Rain OPM
  4. Your reference there is incorrect but it's all good. We should try the peaceful route. It's less stressful and definitely more professional since we are all in the local industry. I suggest we stop escalating these stupid arguments. Again I don't even remember about what we're arguing about anyway:)
  5. Well in addition to your accomplishments, your last post just earned my personal respect. I consider the beef squashed and maybe your input here can help all of us improve the scene in Vegas across the board. -DJMW
  6. Safety, politics, crowd control, and to keep the knuckleheads out. Not only do we implement the measures you mentioned, but we also employ 20 to 40 in house security guards every night, most of whom are certified, we also hire undercover security and keep cameras on every inch of the club. We are very serious about providing a friendly and safe environment for all. This is why we still exist despite the stigmas associated with clubs that attract black customers. We bring thousands of customers, and when you mix that volume of a crowd with alcohol and loud music, no matter what style of music, it's very important to stay in control of your venue.
  7. You know what? I can live with that. There are a few FACTS wrong but the past two posts sum up the positions pretty nicely. Thanks to Greenie for saying it like it is with good words. Just to clarify a few facts. OPM was dead the first year it was open, because it didn't home in on the "hip-hop" niche until it's second year. It's location in the closed forum shops didn't bring anyone until the word got out on the direction the club went. The crowd OPM brings is very diverse, but the primary pull is a black crowd, and despite the comments made here by some, the crowd is peaceful and very well dressed. The dress code is more strict at OPM than any other club in town as far as I know. You won't see almost any guys in t-shirts or tennis shoes. Slide obviously has its own niche which is completely different than OPM. It's all good. I'm not even sure what we're arguing about here. I hope Slide does its damn thing and everyone lives happily ever after. I spin cds and Serato now too. I'm not upset about that. Sorry if that upsets anyone else. I love music like many others here. I also love to make a living. Not sure how following financial opportunity somehow diminishes anything we do. Well that's about it for now. Maybe we can stop fighting now because I don't even know what we're fighting about anymore
  8. If your response was to my original post, it is obvious you do not know the songs I was referring to, because they don't use drum machine or casio samples. The songs incorporate synth layers in the background resembling the electro style. Also several industry publications are beginning to acknowledge the trend.
  9. It's funny how we have been debating about Hip-Hop, and what's real and what's fake... In the meantime, the electro sounds seems be coming back in a big way. The new Ying Yang & Bun B, along with the new Lil Rob both incorporate elements from the electro genre. Many other releases are incorporating that sound as well. Should be interesting to see how far this trend goes, but I personally love it. These new tracks really move the dance floor, even if people don't know the actual songs yet - and that is a great sign that a new trend may become popular quickly.
  10. Actually yes that works for cabbies and some limos. But they will want to bring you to the club that pays them the biggest juice. No worries though, usually the nice clubs offer the best pay so you'll get a good deal regardless. If you're catching the ride from a hotel, you may have better luck explaining your plan to the hotel's attendant (and slip him a few), and let him do the negotiating especially since he probably knows which drivers will wheel and deal like this.
  11. AMEN!!! Also, according to The Hip Hop Film Festival, UCLA Working Group on Hip-hop Studies, UCLA Departments of Ethnomusicology and Musicology, and J.U.I.C.E. (Justice by Uniting In Creative Energy), a non-profit Hip-hop community center.... "The real values of hip-hop: Knowledge, Wisdom, Understanding, Freedom, Justice, Equality, Respect, Unity, Love, and Peace." You'll notice they don't ONLY focus on breakdancers, graffiti, vinyl turntablism, etc. If you want to celebrate true hip-hop culture, do not ignore the full human side of the culture. It's not JUST about the battle, the forefathers or the technicalities.
  12. What you don't play music from the forefathers of EDM!!! Just playing Good luck with your nights.
  13. Rhino is a much better choice. Might want to check out Scores too. Also if you rent a car, and don't cab it, be sure to tell them that when you arrive and ask for free cover. If you cab it, you'll pay at least $20 to $30 per head to get in, no exceptions (since they pay a large fee to the cabs).
  14. Jesus what is up with all this HATING! Vegasbabie, I don't even know who you are, nor do I dislike you on a personal level. But this whole shpiel is completely inaccurate. I *do* have massive passion about music. I just love *new* music, especially regional music. I'm often criticized for playing too much new music in the club. I think it's a dj's duty to break new music that will eventually have a chance at mass popularity. I'm always looking to improve and learn new ways to wow the crowd. But this shouldn't even be about me. I respect the past, I just don't respect people who act like their past disqualifies today's present. I respect Kid Capri when he guest djs. And I'm also the one fielding the complaints when regulars want to know why Kid's only Bay record is Hyphy and then he mixes it into a Notorious B.I.G. or something else. Does that mean he's a bad dj? No way! But I have gone out and bought him the essential bay vinyl so he can expand his regional library. I did that out of respect and love. Does any of this mean we all have different strengths and weaknesses? Hell yes. We're all trying to work together to bring a great scene in Vegas. I'm really getting tired of this NEVERENDING attack, especially since all we do is attract a bigger crowd each and every month. It's OK to disagree. But HATING is going too far in my opinion.

  16. Hey Greenie, good looking out!! Thanks man. There are so many hot night options now, all of which include hip-hop music. Tao Thursday / Tryst Thursday / Jet Monday / Pure Tuesday / Body English Sunday / OPM Sunday / Tangerine Wednesday... Plus each of these spots go nuts Friday and Saturday as well! These clubs each have a niche, mostly in design and A-list crowd appeal. OPM for its more urban appeal.
  17. Luckily it doesn't really matter since we ended up bringing 1800 people Sunday night, including some people who work at Tabu (since I guess Tabu's relatively small venue employs a skeleton crew on Sundays for some reason). Besides I find it amazingly funny that you quantify anything by numbers, since according to you, popularity has nothing to do with the REAL anyway LOL.
  18. Your mental capacity never ceases to amaze me LOL!
  19. Lets squash this for once and for all. Have I *ever* come up on here and bragged about my skills? Do you think i *care* how hard it is to spin vinyl compared to cue points and cd sample disks? The club's DJ team and I have only one goal, and that is to keep patrons happy. Repeat business is the best indication of success in that area. I also maintain a huge mailing list for the club and personally respond to every email sent to me (djmw@freevegasclubs.com). So please STOP trying to suck me into this whole battle mentality. We're not 12 years old anymore. I'm not looking to compete against any djs because I don't have anything to prove except that I can entertain a room of people who come to the club. I don't care if I use a CD or a freakin 8 track player. It's completely irrelevant to my customers. I am tight with DJ Rectangle who can outspin and outchop nearly anyone. Yes, it is possible to be friends with DJs who are better than you. We don't sit there and piss at each other; we learn from each other and have fun doing it.
  20. Like I said, I would bet the results were already pre-determined before any votes, but that's just a guess.
  21. Thanks Greenie for that clarification (and for all of your posts). The irony of this whole conversation is that OPM's format is probably the *least* radio-friendly Hip-Hop in Vegas. We rarely drop any "G-unit" after 1am. Not sure what DJ-P mashes into his mixes at Tabu, but if it was anything like his (impressive) set at Studio 54, it's all familiar top 40 from the past and present. After 1am, OPM focuses mainly on regional music like Bay Area (Hyphy movement) and real dirty South that one may hear on KXHT in Memphis but not in a music video, and hard hitting beats that you would NEVER hear at another club in Vegas. And you'll hear that mixed in with dancehall, reggae roots and other music formats that do not include top 40 or current radio.
  22. Obviously they didn't have you write an essay on it Seriously though, you should practice some humility. People will respond to you without feeling the strong desire to do exactly the opposite of what you're probably trying to accomplish. We all have resumes. We all have accomplished things in life. We have done so without putting others down in the process. I'm not sure who hurt you in your youth, but your pain is so evident. Seriously, get over yourself and learn the most important lesson of success... True accomplishments in life are always directly proportional to the good things you do for people around you. There's no way to avoid that principal of success. If you put everyone down, ultimately you lose that amount of opportunity to help succeed yourself. One day you will learn this or maybe you won't. I hope you do.
  23. I admit I cannot compete with your message board entertainment value. I wonder why you don't quantify hip-hop by numbers of viewers too
