  1. You may be a good candidate for OPM Saturday. Diverse is a good word for the crowd, but no house music, just hip-hop.

Except no good experienced djs use any technological breakthroughs to beatmatch. I don't know one dj who uses any special button to beatmatch. Everyone uses the different manual pitch controls and that's all. It wouldn't even be worth chancing it when any decent DJ can simply use headphones and manual controls. "Beat counters" have nothing to do with the skill of beatmatching except maybe show a direction when first adjusting the tempos. It's funny how some non-djs feel it takes massive talent to beat match flawlessly. Maybe that's because so many djs get hired who still don't know how to do it
  3. Besides who cares even if people did have glo sticks.

Why do we need to know how to spin both types of music? Do you think Franzen is a bad dj because he is an awesome hip-hop dj but probably couldn't work a house crowd for five minutes? The way I see it, a good dj is someone who can keep their crowd happy, no matter what type of equipment he/she uses; someone who can read their crowd and then lead them along a path that satisfies them. I disagree, especially with the period. The who-you-know and right-place-right-time opens the opportunity. The skills allow a DJ to move to a whole new level after being given the opportunity. It has much to do with skills and success in the booth, even though some cities, especially Vegas, seems to pay much less attention to skills, and much more attention to who's liked by who and who needs who, and who's sleeping with who, etc.
  5. Update: This will be a Hot 97.5 station event. Expect a big crowd!
  6. Club 702 on E. Flamingo... Monday July 3 This will be a DJ MasterWeb / Scott Shaw production... DJ Franzen, DJ Big D, Dre Dae, Goldie Gold of the Federation, and more... Dress Code: HIP-HOP... Stay tuned to this thread for more details...
  7. Hey thanks for the shout out -- by the the way I don't need an invitation, I'll be there to check out your new night, no courtesies necessary. I really hope this works out because it will give the true upscale hip-hop community six strong nights to go out and enjoy the scene. I can't remember the last time this has happened in Vegas, or any city for that matter.
  8. Club Seven but they're closed now...
  9. I appreciate the nice words. Dress code can go both ways in my opinion. Yes we at OPM relax it slightly on the weekdays, but we still turn away tennis shoes, tshirts, caps, athletic gear, etc. The only things we allow these weekdays are slightly baggier jeans, or shirts without collars that aren't straight tees. Lately our weekdays have grown so much that we don't really loosen the dress requirement much at all anymore, but in the early stages we needed to be more flexible to fill the room. Since the demo of your crowd will be pretty much opposite of Ice weekends, the dress code issues become complicated because some apparel could become "acceptable" while others should be prohibited if you want to maintain an upscale base. Perfect example, white tees - big no no. Tennis shoes, risky to your image if you let em in. But baggy jeans, some would consider that totally acceptable. You probably know all of this anyway, but in case you were looking for another opinion, those are my 2 cents.
  10. Mr. VIP, in my eyes, your post was the post of the year. I'm so tired of some people feeling the only way to do business in Vegas is to tippy toe, sugar coat, and brown nose. This is a discussion board and with that comes opinions, feedback and real talk. There's very little on this board that would hurt a potential customer's wishes to partake in our scene. If anything, it shows that we are passionate about what we do, and we are willing to address issues, etc.
  11. Franzen and Jnoise are great, professional guys. I hope the promoters/management give them the freedom to play what they play and say what they say. I also hope Ice realizes dress code for an event like this needs to be treated differently than dress code on the weekends. If you don't know what I mean, you'll find out quickly. If you need any third party help/support from someone who has been running 97.5 nights for the past two years, feel free to hit me up at djmw@freevegasclubs.com or www.myspace.com/djmasterweb
  12. Is Jet even open on Sunday night? Their weekday night is Monday.
  13. Greenie, you are truly an awesome contributor here - just wanted to say that - you rule bro. One thing to add, since the original poster is from Boston. Reggaeton is big there, so if that's something you're looking for in Vegas, Club Rio on Thursdays is your first option. OPM has a reggaeton room on Wednesday and a Reggae room on Sunday as well.
  14. If a promoter is getting paid same day, how is that messed up? Weeks late = messed up. Same day = better than almost every other club.
  15. Maybe not cool but also within their right to try to maximize their door when demand surpassed supply. I think the spot may be hurting a bit now, but probably not so much due to their door policy, but more that a newer bigger spot opened against them. If the new spot closed tomorrow, I'm pretty sure Drais would be just as busy as before if not more.
  16. My answer doesn't address your question exactly. Ra Thursdays were packed for six straight years, but on Thursdays. I don't know of any other club to have packed a non-Saturday night for that long.
  17. Nobody attacked *your* character. When did someone even mention a person's name in any part of a negative comment. You didn't even sign your own post with a name. The only *personal* attack is your own about "consequences" etc. Get over yourself, this isn't the mafia, it's an open discussion. This isn't about you. There were a few comments in this thread about pre-paid tickets not being honored, and promoters getting shafted to one degree or another. This is a public forum and I'm sorry if it bursts your ego if someone shared some negative opinions about your spot. My involvement is non-existent except that I am a participant in a public discussion. Get over it. People say shit about the spot I work at too and I defend it when necessary, but I don't go around threatening consequences just because someone didn't blow me here. Again, do your thing and don't take the discussion here so personal, just address them if you feel necessary and enjoy yourself. ** edit --> Sent you a PM, Vegasalist.
  18. If stating the truth means I can't work in this town, then so be it. I have a feeling my industry credibility will keep me in this town, despite your attempt to intimidate and silence me. If my respected friends bust their ass on the street, and then don't get paid on time, while the club they worked for hits capacity each and every weekend, then yes, I feel it is my credible duty to say something about that. Empire does so well that there's no excuse to not pay their street team bills on time. Like I said, it's nothing personal, and I take care of Empire staff all the time at OPM. It has nothing to do with hooking staff up. It has only to do with not taking care of the "small guys" who help all of us, and who don't have a loud enough voice to be heard. But hey, it's all good. I do hope Empire continues to succeed. I also personally have respect for you Tony/Gino, etc. However no matter what, that will never stop me from discussing problems that affect all of our credibility when it comes to the people who help all of us behind the scenes.
  19. OK then I acknowledge you didn't "screw them" -- you just didn't pay them on time as promised for their hard work. Instead you took the door moneys they generated, and allocated it to other expenses. Sorry if I implied that you wronged them in any way
  20. yeah your post was so informative itself.
  21. Does Exodus spin any house or EDM? I worked with him and I always thought he was a hip-hop guy. Just curious.
  22. I disagree unless the 4th falls on a Saturday or Sunday. Last year it fell on a Monday and the whole weekend was bananas. This year it falls on a Tuesday so we'll see.
  23. Memorial is much better because it kicks off the summer vacation season. Labor day kicks off back-to-school. It will still be busy - but July 4th weekend should actually be better than Labor Day weekend.
  24. Sorry but your own statement proves that it was NOT a flat out lie. If Johnny spends 30 hours busting his ass to give out Empire tickets, and gets 100 customers into the club, and then finds out his promised pay cannot be delivered on time due to "cash flow" issues, then it is completely accurate if he goes around saying Empire screwed him. I have no problem with Empire, but I can state for a fact that some of the good street promoters won't work for Empire due to the reputation of not paying, or not paying on time.
